Keeping it LITE

CO-DIRECTOR | PRODUCER | STRATEGIST

#KeepingitLITE is an online study about the life experiences and health of LGBTQ+ communities in the United States. I conceptualized a year-long outreach strategy leveraging guerilla marketing, social media influencers, billboard advertisements, and online ads to encourage participation from LGBTQ youth of color.

​I storyboarded, shot, and edited 15 second online ads working with Ricardo Gamboa, an award-winning dramatist. We recruited thousand of youth for the study and served as a national model in HIV outreach.

A publicity and social impact campaign to fight the staggering unemployment rate for trans and gender nonconforming people by encouraging employers to hire them. More than 60 trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming people gave their time to be photographed for a year-long Chicago-area campaign in traditional media, social media, online and in public spaces. The program created a LGBTQ job fair and offered ongoing support to businesses seeking to become more culturally competent in their work places.

Trans Lifeline

Trans Lifeline is the first ever suicide prevention hotline run by and for the transgender community. I joined the two founders as the first paid staff member. 

GOALS
When I came on, the organization had $83,000 in the bank and had start just one year prior. As the Director of Marketing and Communications, my goal was to build online awareness to recruit volunteers, spread the word to potential callers, and raise funds through grassroots campaigns. 
 

THE RESULTS
Within one year, I built an online audience of 37K people who we engaged to recruit 700 volunteers, answered 16K phone calls, and raised $500,000 through grassroots donations. ​

A CRISIS RESPONSE CAMPAIGN
​When one of our founders was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), we launched a campaign to get her released by engaging influencers (including Miley Cyrus and Laura Jane Grace) and gathering 10K signatures on an 
online petition and flooding the detention center with 3,000 calls. We raised over $10,000 for legal fees to get her out overnight.
